Men and Their TVs

Hello from the West Coast!  For the next week, my blog posts will appear on Pacific Time as I experience my longest business trip ever.  And when I come home, I will be the owner of a 3D TV.  I’m sure there are other, more technical details about said TV that I am leaving out, but you get the point.

I’m sorry. I just don’t get that excited about TVs.  But the fiance, and apparently most men, do.  Going to Best Buy is like going to Candyland for them!  After getting engaged, we made the decision to put our search for a new home on hold.  Originally, we were going to wait to get a new TV until we moved as well, but now that our priorities have changed, the plan has changed.

Don’t get me wrong — I am thrilled to have a nice TV, but men take this whole TV thing to a new level.  The fiance started telling his friends, and from that there were conversations about all the cool things about TVs and what’s on the market, and who’s going to get the biggest, and why 3D is so cool.  Some guys are into cars, some are into video games, some are into sports. I got the one who is into movies and music.  I consider myself lucky.

But I really don’t get it.  I actually don’t think I have ever purchased a TV before.  My TVs in college and when I moved out were either my roommate’s or hand-me-downs.  Kind of like car shopping (my next adventure), I don’t think I would really know where to begin.  For heaven’s sake I have trouble turning the TV on half the time — don’t laugh, that whole HDMI thing is so confusing. And why are there so many remote controls?

So I’m happy to let the fiance make decisions like these with minimal input from me.  You gotta know your strengths and weaknesses.

And with that Pushing Thirtyy theater is coming soon.  Bring your own 3D glasses.
