Time Out

September 20, 2012 at 7:28 am | Posted in Life and Living | 2 Comments
It was bound to happen. With everything I have been doing, I haven’t stopped, not for a minute. So my body shut down. I have been sick since the weekend.

But I didn’t take off from work right away. I don’t usually call in sick. I made it through Monday, called out sick Tuesday, and tried so hard to make it through Wednesday, but failed by 10 am. Since I have to travel again for work, followed directly by my bachelorette party, I caved and gave in to my body’s demands for rest.

I have always been one to work through whatever limitations my body tried to put on me. I think I get that from my father. For heaven’s sake the man didn’t even know he had a heart attack until he felt a heaviness on his chest while running and went to the doctor suspecting pneumonia. No, I always go into work. If I can walk, if I can sit, if I can type, I go to work. Last year after I almost sliced my finger off with a butter knife, I went to the hospital, got the 2 stitches I needed, and came back to work. I could still type and I was busily laughing at my own ridiculousness.

But this time was different. I couldn’t concentrate. I had rested most of my symptoms away. What was left was all in my head, quite literally. Such a fog and a heaviness. I didn’t know what to do. Should I rest? Should I eat? I sit here in a daze wondering when it will go away, wondering if it has ruined my party.

So I let my body win the battle, but it won’t win the war. I know I am lucky this happened now and not the week of my wedding. And I won’t let this bring me down on my girls weekend getaway.

So wish me luck on this business trip and well for my bachelorette party. Things never seem to turn out the way you’d expect I guess, but hopefully it will turn out even better than I imagined.

  1. I totally feel your pain. I am also of the mind of, if I can sit up straight I can probably go to work. Definitely a good idea to rest though.

    feel better and good luck!

  2. I got so sick right before my wedding. It was crazy. I guess our bodies just try to slow us down when we need it. Hope you get well!
