Does That Make Me Crazy?

Growing up, I always had an eclectic group of friends.  I was always attracted to unique people — never really connected to a clique of people who in my mind’s eye were basically clones of each other.  I was always attracted to a little awkwardness, a little spark of something different.  Something told me I would learn a lot from this sorts of people.  They would make all of my life experiences more interesting… and they did.

Lately, I’ve been labeling these people, and by association myself, as being a little crazy.  Not a day goes by that someone close to me does something that makes me think, “wow, is that normal?”  I know for a fact that my good friends would say the same about me.  No matter how well you know someone, they can always find a way to make you fall out of your seat with some sort of crazy idea, opinion or habit.  I am a big fan of the shock factor and find this kind of craziness to be highly entertaining, and I love to laugh, so the more crazy I can attract the happier I am.

And I know I’m not alone in this kind of enjoyment. It’s the reason why so many reality shows do so well.  People love seeing people who are crazier than them.  All those people with extreme fetishes, disabilities and obsessions. It’s like validation that you are normal.  But seriously, who doesn’t know someone who’s closet is meticulously organized by color, who collects sneakers or action figures, who talks to themselves, who double and triple checks locks on all the doors on the house before leaving.  We all know people like that.

But sometimes the crazy is well hidden.  I find it hard to believe that people perceived as being completely normal don’t have at least one little tick.  I think we all have something that makes us a little crazy.

There.  I said it.  At the end of the day, I think we are all a little CRAY.
