A Lesson in Class and Keeping Composure

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of one of my oldest friends.  We have known each other for 17 years and through many ups and downs, she has remained really important to me.  It was an honor to be her oldest friend in attendance and to see just how far we have come.

When we reconnected last year after a few years of her living abroad, neither of us were engaged, but we were both ready to be, so when we both got engaged, we began this journey together.  I couldn’t wait to go to her wedding and I know she’s excited for mine.  We shared a lot of ideas and seeing her theme come to life and stay so true to her and her husband’s personalities was inspiring.

But as the song goes, you can plan a pretty picnic, but you can’t predict the weather.  Her wedding day was surrounded by days of sun, but on her day there were scattered thunderstorms, followed by tornado warnings.  She was lucky enough to get a window of time to have her ceremony outside, and with her heels sinking in the grass as she walked down the aisle, you saw nothing but class, beauty and serenity.

Following the ceremony, the reception began in a tent, but after a short time we were escorted into the main building on the property because of tornado warnings.  Inside, she had her dance with her husband, her mother/daughter dance, and the mother/son dance.  She cut the cake in an intimate room surrounded by all her guests.  Eventually we were able to go back into the tent.  It was certainly an evening to remember!

The best part of all of this was that not once did you see the bride or groom lose their cool.  The pure excitement and love was strong enough to defeat any fear, worry, or disappointment in the weather.  Brides often get a bad reputation for being too controlling, but not this bride.  Their attitude was so positive that it permeated throughout the crowd and made the evening magical.  She was not going to get defeated and that is something to admire.

Because at the end of the day, they were going to be married, no matter what.  They were going to be together, no matter what.  They will be able to weather any storm together with class and composure.  I look forward to seeing their journey continue together.
